HSE Safeguarding team and Gardai join with Muintir na Tire and Community Alert groups, to help understand the problem of Elder Abuse
Webinar on Elder Abuse 4th of May, 2021 at 7.30pm
During the Covid19 lockdowns we have seen a huge decrease in the amount of burglaries and robberies in our districts.
However criminals are still making people suffer, and you probably are aware that there is a significant increase in calls to the Gardaí about different forms of Abuse as well as phone and internet scams.
Elder Abuse, it may not be spoken about but unfortunately, it still is the Elephant in the room.
Many of you will remember attending meeting’s where we discussed Elder Abuse in all its complexities, a few years ago, awareness was raised then, and a number of unfortunate situations were brought to the attention of Gardaí and the HSE
Whether caused by a bully who feels self-empowered and enjoys making peoples life hell, or a more insidious deceitful individual interaction, Elder Abuse is still a problem.
The ethos of Community Alert is Safety and Security for everybody in our community, we do have a duty to know about and understand the problem.
Therefore I am asking you to please find the time at 7.30pm on the 4th of May to listen into our webinar when Lorna O’Neill and Darragh Bergin representing the HSE, and the Cork Kerry and Limerick Safeguarding team explain the situation and speak to us about how they deal with it day to day.
Our Gardaí are essential safeguarding partners to us in the community and to the HSE dealing with abuse, so Lorna and Darragh will be joined by Inspector Ian O’Callaghan on the panel.
It is normal practice that people register in advance to be given a connection to any webinar.
