Arts & Crafts at Spring Chickens

Over the past few weeks, our Spring Chickens Club have been arts-and-crafting with two exciting projects. First, Grainne Furey of the Blue and Green Network, ably assisted by LTI Community Development student Morgan Twohig, helped everyone make their own beeswax wrap – a great way of keeping food fresh without using plastics. Great fun was had and the wraps are beautiful – and reusable! The session led to great conversations about recycling and reuse as well, with participants sharing their years of experience in reducing waste and making things last.

This week the group welcomed artist Jackie Nevin and Climate Community Worker Mark Falvey for a fun and informative workshop as part of the Pathways: Community Climate Resilience project. Spring Chicks shared their knowledge and experience of flooding and were very articulate about what’s needed to form an effective response to flooding in Youghal. This was achieved through art work – using inks and paper, creating a seascape which will form part of the final exhibition (more on that next time!).  While people were working on this, Mark also got useful ideas for activities during Climate Action Week in October-we’re looking forward to working with Mark again then!

Spring Chickens Social Club meets every Monday in CnD Community Cafe from 11am – 3pm for a full day of activities and a hot 2-course lunch. If you’d like to join, call Hayley on 087 9890336 or just come along one week and see what you think! There’s always a welcome.
