The Spring Chickens Club made their annual summer trip this week, as the last week before their summer break.
After a refreshing tea and scone in CnD Café, off we went to the Cork Butter Museum in Shandon. This was a great site, with so much local information and folk relics all related to the important role of butter in the Cork and Irish economies. Guide Danielle gave us a potted history of the trade and we spent a happy hour looking at the exhibits, churns, milk-cans and machinery that helped make butter such a valuable and well-loved commodity. There was even bog butter on display, over 4,000 years old! With a quick visit to the old-fashioned sweet shop of Shandon, we boarded our coach again and stopped at the Fork and Wheel, Midleton, for a very tasty lunch. The atmosphere was lovely, the food excellent and the staff so welcoming!
Everyone had a good day, it was such fun to go somewhere different and to explore somewhere new. We’re already wondering where we’ll go next year!
Our thanks to Danielle and all the Butter Museum staff, to Sophie and all at the Fork and Wheel, to our driver Peter and to John Daly coaches for our smooth ride.
Spring Chickens takes a summer break for July and August and will be back in CnD Community Café on Monday September 7th.
In August we’ll be having some informal garden meet-ups where we can each bring a snack and have a chatty picnic. We’ll be visiting Keane Park, Green Park and the Barracks Park – more details will be announced nearer the time!
We will miss the Chicks over the summer – and look forward to welcoming you all back in September.
