Volunteer call! SECAD’s ‘Chat & Connect’ conversation club helps migrants integrate into local community

A new initiative from SECAD, Fáilte Isteach Youghal’s CHAT & CONNECT, are looking for Youghal community members who can share an hour or two each week in an informal English conversation club where attendees will engage in casual chats in a very relaxed environment. CHAT & CONNECT provides a safe, welcoming space where migrants can improve language learning, and build fluency and confidence to support their progress and integration into the local community. It engages the Youghal community by recognising the skills, expertise and contribution of its committed volunteers. By facilitating learning among and about other cultures, CHAT & CONNECT alleviates loneliness and isolation and creates a greater sense of community spirit by forging connections and new friendships.

We are reaching out to invite you to help us run CHAT & CONNECT for six weeks, just to get it off the ground.  Another set of volunteers will then take over for the next 6 weeks and so on. Everyone is welcome to stay longer than 6 weeks, of course, and can do the whole cycle as many times as they wish.

Fáilte Isteach Youghal’s CHAT & CONNECT embraces a casual, unstructured learning atmosphere and provides all training and resource materials for the club. Starting on the second week of September, flexible classes are scheduled, so far, as follows:

Quality Hotel Youghal, Wednesdays, 11 am – 1230 pm

Youghal Library, Friday, 11 am – 1230 pm

Volunteers can register their name, email, WhatsApp number and choice of venue/day via youghalenglishchat@gmail.com.

Please join Failte Isteach Youghal’s CHAT & CONNECT and help build long-lasting, authentic connections to positively impact the Youghal community. We look forward to hearing from you.
