Last week, as part of Cork Lifelong Learning Festival, staff and facilitators of CnD took part in the Cork Gay Project’s ‘Rainbow Ready: Advancing Allyship’ training.
This was a relaxed and enjoyable exploration of how we, as workers in the community, can be inclusive and supportive of our LGBTI+ community members.
The training is free to organisations and is well worth the time! We hope to bring Killian back at a future date to ensure all our staff have the same knowledge and understanding to help us deliver our activities in a way that makes everyone feel welcome.

Who is it for?
“Rainbow Ready” is a certified inclusivity training programme designed for community organisations, non-profits, and educational institutions. This training equips staff, educators, and leaders to create and maintain inclusive, respectful, and safe spaces for LGBTI+ individuals. Through this programme, participants will gain practical tools and knowledge to foster a culture of inclusion and provide a positive experience for all community members.
Upon completion, organisations will receive the prestigious Rainbow Ready Inclusion Rating, a certification symbolising their commitment to LGBTI+ inclusivity. In addition, organisations will appoint an Internal Reporting Officer who will be responsible for managing LGBTI+ grievances, tracking the organisation’s/institution’s progress, and overseeing simple annual reviews to ensure the continuous application of inclusive practices.
How long does it take and what are the costs?
Training takes 2 hours and Gay Project are available year round to facilitate trainings. This training is currently funded through 2026 to be available free of charge to community organisations, non-profits, and educational institutions. To receive certification we seek to ensure at minimum 80% of your organisation’s staff complete the programme. This can be achieved with additional training sessions to accommodate conflicting staff schedules where needed.

- LGBTI+ Terminology
- Pronouns and usage
- Issues faced by the LGBTI+ community
- Supporting someone through the coming out process
- Supporting someone through the transition process
- How to be an effective LGBTI+ Advocate
- How to provide an LGBTI+ inclusive and safe space
- Where to signpost to other services
- Creating and enforcing inclusive policy practices
