On Tuesday 14th May, as part of Cork LGBTI+ Awareness Week and to mark IDAHOBIT Day, Cllr. Mary Linehan-Foley, on behalf of the County Mayor, raised the rainbow progress flag at Youghal Town Hall.
This acknowledgement of the Council’s role and support in encouraging LGBTI+ inclusion is an important sight in the town, and shows the Council’s determination in inclusion and equality.
Cllr. Linehan-Foley’s message to everyone reads:
“Hello everyone, It’s LGBTQI+ Awareness Week, a time to celebrate diversity, equality and love in all its forms. Let’s stand together, educate ourselves and create a world where everyone is accepted and respected, regardless of who they love or how they identify.
Join the movement, spread love, and let’s make a difference together.
Happy LGBTQI+ Awareness Week”
Speaking on behalf of Cumann na Daoine’s Seeding the County LGBT+ development project, staff member Hayley Fox-Roberts thanked Cork County Council and Youghal Municipal staff for their ongoing and continued support for the development of LGBT+ services and visibility across the county, including the county-wide interagency network CCILN. Particular thanks were given to Lorraine Hogan, Community Development Manager in Youghal Town Hall, and to Cllr. Linehan-Foley for their targeted support.
Cumann na Daoine also marks Awareness Week with a series of social media posts (shared by all CCILN memebrs) and a Film Night for the East Cork LGBT+ Network.
