Minister Joe O’Brien to launch Blue & Green Community Network next week

Minister Joe O’Brien of the Department of Rural & Community Development will be welcomed to Youghal on 23rd June as he launches the Youghal Blue & Green Community Network at Cumann na Daoine Community Cafe in Catherine Street at 1pm.

At the launch event, which also celebrates Cumann na Daoine’s 25 years of community development in the town, the Minister will be invited to access the Network’s Community Hub, which offers video experiences of local biodiversity sites along with information on sustainable energy, coastal erosion and environmental strategies. The Network’s new website www.youghalblueandgreennetwork.ie will also be launched on the day.Speakers will include the Blue Green Network Chair;  Cumann na Daoine’s Chairperson Dolores Corcoran and other speakers to be confirmed.

Youghal Blue &Green Community Network is a community-based initiative that works towards building a sustainable future for Youghal. By promoting sustainability, informing people about the environmental crisis and protecting the town’s natural and cultural heritage, the Network aims to create a cleaner, healthier and better living environment for everyone in the area. The Network has strong community involvement, with 23 organisations and 22 individual actively engaged members. New members, both organisational and individual, are welcomed.

Since its outset in 2020, the Network has developed learning materials, delivered workshops and information sessions, collaborated with local businesses and schools on environmental issues, and delivered Youghal’s first Zero Waste Festival in 2022.

The Blue & Green Information Hub, sited in CnD Community Cafe, Catherine Street, Youghal, was funded by LEADER and the Network also receives core funding from the Department of Rural & Community Development, the Tomar Trust and Cork County Council.
