A warm welcome at Youghal Men’s Shed Open Day

Great to take a look around Youghal Men’s Shed at the first of their Open Days today!

The men meet twice a week at their well-stocked premises behind Foroige in Nagle House, Youghal.

The men renovated the premises themselves and have done a splendid job, using the old bathroom block of the previous school and turning it into a well-equipped workshop, comfortable meeting space and creating a flourishing garden outside it.

Men of all ages (women are welcome too!) are invited to pop along any Tuesday or Thursday between 10am and 12.30pm to see what’s afoot. The men have lots of projects ongoing; building raised beds and swift boxes for the Tidy Towns and Youghal Community Garden; shelves and benches for schools and community centres, and owl- and bat-boxes to help our native species keep a firm footing.

The Men’s Shed also has a polytunnel, with vegetables and herbs already growing, along with a couple of raised beds.

The idea behind Men’s Sheds is to provide a space where men feel comfortable to talk, make friends and take part in courses, training and information sessions, as well as working on the many projects. Youghal Men’s Shed will host some more Open Days over the coming months but don’t be shy – pop along and see if it’s for you!
