The Times of Our Lives: Heritage Week event builds on our local heritage programme

Next week is Cork County Heritage Week, and to celebrate this, and acknowledge our funding support from Cork County Heritage Office, we are hosting an event at Cumann na Daoine to open conversations about our local histories; family histories and memories of the fishing and shore trades of the town. This event is part of our broader ‘Times of Our Lives’ project, which draws together elements already in place – the Fishing Families Storyboards from Youghal’s Blue & Green Network; the CnD Women’s Group ‘Legacy Project’ publication, the Family History works undertaken by Spring Chickens and the 2021 Weathering the Changes storytelling project, which led to inclusion in the Cork County Council publication ‘Stories from Older People on Climate Change’.

At Thursday’s event, local historian Michael Hussey will show us a range of photos from collections that he’s custodian for, and all are invited to join in with their own stories and their own memories. Following this event, we will be hosting a number of sessions in which you will be invited to record your stories (in audio or writing) for inclusion in future online and paper publications.

Thursday’s event runs from 3-5pm at the CnD Cafe. All are welcome; the event is free and light refreshments will be served.

This project is funded by the Heritage Council under County Heritage Plan Funding 2022
