National Gallery dementia inclusive in-home art resource

National Gallery of Ireland introduces a dementia inclusive in-home art resource

The National Gallery of Ireland has been providing free, facilitator-led dementia-inclusive sessions on site at the Gallery and in the community over the last five years. Their new in-home resource enables people with dementia and carers to enjoy art within their own home.

This art resource has been designed as an aid for the carer/ health professional to assume the role of facilitator, with a step-by-step guide for exploring five artworks from the gallery collection. The resource is available via the Gallery website or as a PDF download.

The sessions are suitable for individuals and small groups. Each session involves a discussion followed by a practical art session that focuses on one artwork. You don’t need to know about art beforehand – this resource is designed to help everyone look at and enjoy art.

Access the resource here: www.nationalgallery.ie/what-we-do/education-department/access-programme/dementia-home-activity

If you have the means to use digital platforms like Zoom, the Gallery can also arrange for a member of their team to take part in the session. For further information email education@ngi.ie
